Let me give you an analogy - Facebook is like a busy high street market when you update your status it is pretty much like shouting out pound of bananas for a pound what you want to do is attract passers-by to your store - your website where you can talk to them get to know them and find out what they want. Otherwise all you’re really doing is running up to people on the street and pulling at their sleeves for attention, get them away from Facebook and get them to come to your website directly, because when they are on Facebook the relationship is with Facebook not with you.
